It's either due to personal issues their going through and it's a way for them to calm down or something...

There are a lot of reasons. Some people do it as a reliever because of how bad their life is. Others do it as a punishment for themselves due to them feeling like they’re not good enough. And then some people do it for attention..

For some people it feels relieving. Its usually what happens when someone has severe depression and often puts themselves down, to put it simply anyways.
It's a very self destructive behavior and usually ends with a suicide. If any of your family or friends are doing self harm tell an adult you feel you can trust and make sure to check in on said friend.
Some people do it because they feel emotionally numb, and the pain makes them feel something again, for others it calms them down and takes their minds off of what is bothering them. And what Monk and Moth said
Please dont listen to the ppl that say it relieves pain. It only causes it and it is actually very dangerous. To anyone self harming here, PLEASE get some help. Im worried about this community who act like its no big deal when its a really big deal.
They are mentally depressed or attention seekers, please do not take their advice anyways. I am the only one around here with a brain thats not messed up quite yet.
dang this turned into a mental health war. I dont do self harm, and I defiantly wont after this, and I never was going to. I was just wondering why people do it out of curiosity.
