Similar to the concept of gerrymandering, I’d say

Similar to the concept of gerrymandering, I’d say | It’s time for the first season of the Xmar Soccer League! There are 8 teams that will play this year: the Tigers, Lions, Bees, Turtles, Bears, Mosquitoes, Elephants, & Rwells. During the regular season, each team shall play each other team twice, one home game & one away game. 56 total games will be played during the regular season. After all the regular season games are played, these were how many points each team scored in total:; 1. Turtles: 378 pts
2. Rwells: 302 pts
3. Bees: 255 pts
4. Bears: 233 pts
5. Elephants: 217 pts
6. Lions: 163 pts
7. Tigers: 152 pts
8. Mosquitoes: 41 pts; If the total # of points a team got in total determined whether they would go to the final game or not, then the Turtles & Rwells would go to the championship game, since those teams scored the most total points. But that’s not how this works. You see, the GAMES WON determine if a team goes to the championship game, not the total # of points they got. The two teams who win the most games in the regular season go to the final game. So if your team wins a game only 2-1, that counts as one step closer to going to the championship. If your team wins against that same team again 69-24, that also as a step closer to being in the championship. Notice how the 25 points the losing team scored total in these two games are just about ignored, despite accounting for nearly 26% of all the points scored in these games. Meanwhile, the 71 points your team scored in total is over represented, as your team scored around 74% of all the points total in these games, but according to the people who came up with this system, your team scored 100% of the points, or 96 points. Although the team that scored the most points also won the most games in this small case, keep in mind that FIFTY-SIX games are played in a regular season, and if the 54 other games were to have certain outcomes, the example could end up bending the results enough to make a prominent difference about who goes to championship game. Try to come up with a scenario where at least one of the two teams who scored the most points don’t win enough games to go to the championship. You don’t have to include the scenario where the team who scored 26% of the pts in 2 games got no representation, but I would ask that you make sure the teams still scored the same # of TOTAL points in the regular season that I listed around the beginning of the meme. Here’s a chart you can fill out where you can plot out the final score of each game: | image tagged in double long black template, puzzles, math, gerrymandering, sports | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
