and it's not always bad
autistic people are great problem solvers
ADHD people can do tasks crazy fast and with great accuracy
OCD people are great at remembering details and keeping a routine

there's always a backside to that coin, and it tends to outweigh the good parts. Saying "neurodivergence" and just "oh they're just different" is objectively wrong. There are issues that need to be fixed as soon as we as a society develop the means to fix them.
[deleted]

i don't wanna be fixed
sure, there are cons, but they're a part of me. I can find ways around them without removing the pros
it's not always easy, but it's better than ableism and discrimination

So it means you're autistic
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
it can,
it's more of an umbrella term for those who's brain's might not be the same as everyone else's, which can have pros and cons
pro for autism: great problem solver
con for autism: sometimes can't pick up on the emotions of others, depending on how high or low functioning they are

Ableism isn't a thing. It's an understanding that "neurodivergence" is a problem, and being proud of mental disorders is like being happy you've been shot. I meet the definition of neurodivergence. I have ADHD, and have been diagnosed. And I am willing to say that identifying with it to establish that you are different does nobody any good.

you're literally proving ableism's existence right now
i would rather be proud of the way i am than hate myself for it

Saying "Hey, i have a disorder" and giving it a positive name is a tool to separate you from others. What you call ableism, I call awareness. Being aware that you have a problem is the first step to overcoming it, and whining about people saying you're not capable of certain things is not awareness. It's blissful stupidity, the mindset of "i am what i am" taken too far. You're a great person, but creating a fictional divide in the public consciousness, creating a problem of what is solving one, is not that great.

i'm not saying i'm better or worse than a neurotypical person
also, most disorders are hard to live with due to the un-inclusive society we live in
most schools won't put in the effort to give neurodivergent kids the same opportunities that they give neurotypical kids
