I know this is a lot of steps but I figured you went through the time to make this post you should be willing to take the time to source your "data"
Go to the CDC website and look for Covid Weekly cases and you will see they haven't updated them for 2 weeks and won't start again until 1/7/22.
Now go to the NY Times Covid count( the one you're getting your figures from ) and find the page where they explain their "data" look for
"It shows positive tests, which differ from positive cases
The number of positive tests may not be equal to the number of positive cases because of reporting differences across locations. It's also common for a single person to take more than one test. This data uses reporting from polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antigen tests."
The fact that florda has seen a 140% raise in the number of test the last few days easily explains why there getting back more "positive" tests without any significant rise in actual cases
