They think the liquid could be explosive, like gasoline

Then ask the person to take a gulp, if they drink it it is safe, because explosive liquids aren't safe to consume

It would probably be safer to test it in the first place tbh

If the person is unwilling to drink it then it is not safe. That is the test

Ask then to drink it, explosive liquid is not safe to consume. If it is explosive they won't drink it the, but if they do then it is safe.

But if it IS actually a lethal liquid that person would literally die. It is safer to use the method where someone doesn't have the chance of death

But the person would know if they drank it they would die, so they wouldn't drink it. But if they do drink it, the it is natural selection at that point.
