WHAT IS THE TAOIST (OR, DAOIST) BRANCH OF BUDDHISM ALL ABOUT? [1 of 6] Another spin-off from Buddhist Hinduism is called either Taoism or Daoism, a religion practiced mainly in China, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Singapore. Those nations are where we see Taoist temples, but the practice has also become popular in the Western world. Taoism’s set of “scriptures” are referred to as the Tao, and other included texts make up their full spectrum of religious materials they call the Tao-te Ching. “Tao” is a Chinese alphabetic character that means “a way” or “a path." So, Taoism means "the way,” which reveals more about the Buddhist religion of George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. In fact, that franchise recently put out a popular new series called The Mandalorian, a show about a fictitious, mercenary people who follow a philosophy they often verbalize as, “This is the way.” But what is the real truth that we know from the Bible? Who is the only way, the truth, and the life? John 14:6 says no one is able to reach heaven to be with God unless they go through Jesus Christ. So, Star Wars’ and Taoism’s “way” is death—choosing to reject Jesus—suffering in hell for eternity, a horrific end. We get to heaven by accepting Christ’s free gift of salvation through His sacrifice on the cross. That is the only way.
