The original from Terry Pratchett’s book Jingo is “Give a man a fire and he’ll be warm for a day, but set a man on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life” which works better than this. The actual saying is “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, but teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for the rest of his life” which is why the Pratchett quote is funny. It’s annoying how all 3 assume that the person is male.
