we had more than just two nukes. and in japan the most dishonorable thing you can do is surrender or give up. the usa knew japan wouldnt surrender easily even tho the war was already lost for them by then. so two nukes were dropped on some of their larger cities and we would have kept going if they hadnt surrendered.
