WE USE RULERS TO HELP SCALE OUR BLUEPRINTS. I USE THAT SAME TECHNQUE FOR DRAWING.); I GO ONLINE AND SEARCH FOR SOMETHING I WANNA DRAW. THEN I ZOOM IN ON THE PICTURE SO ITS THE SAME SIZE AS MY PAPER. THEN I TAKE A RULER TO MEASURE ALL THE LINES IN THE PICTURE I AM COPYING AND SCALE THAT ONTO THE PAPER. Wait so is it just you copying not reference
Copying is just straight up the same thing
Referencing is using some parts of the image to put in your drawing

I use a very complicated technique
I use the anatomy of the thing
If there is one if not I make it up
I’m pretty good with human anatomy but I still can’t draw faces
