Torches are crude and ugly, try to use glow stones or lanterns
Add texture and depth to the house (e.g trapdoors, buttons, fences, stairs)
Have an allocated/specific place (e.g Storage room, kitchen, crafting room)
Make it proportionate
Make trails using shovels
