What were the rioters doing specifically, and how did he retaliate?

Rioters were in Portland doing drive-by paintballing, drive by making, running people over: other rioters, protesters or people walking home, when crosswalk is lit. Didn't matter to them.

Reinoehl saw a patriot prayer with a gun and mace. Someone saw him and said "we got two over here!" (Referring to leftists) Reinoehl shot him in defense and ran.

I think a week later, Rein was ready to turn himself in. Yet he was afraid to as at the time police were taking random people off the streets, when they were returned, people came back bruised and bloodied. Predictably, police shot him as they reported he fired at them. Even though his gun on him was completely loaded; missing no rounds. No trial for him

I wish people would be more careful hiring police officers. I know some mcdonalds employees who would make better cops

It was self defense. But, because this didn't go to trial, we'll never know. Police didn't "Plug" him, fed marshals did. They claimed he fired a gun, but his pistol was fully loaded; no discharged shot.
