Serious question, let's see if we can conversate like adults. How will stricter gun laws keep people from being victims of crimes where the assailant used a firearm?
Two scenarios- which do you think is better?
A) Person enters an establishment with a gun, intending to get what they want (cash, revenge, whatever). People inside establishment draw their weapons on assailant and neutralize the situation.
B)Person enters an establishment with a gun, intending to get what they want (cash, revenge, whatever). People inside the establishment run and hide but are still killed by the assailant.

Because, Police Officers will be able to keep closer eyes on people who are viewed as potentially dangerous. It's also another reason why we need universal healthcare. So we can give people the help they need so we can prevent them from doing something awful. As for those two situations, if push does come to shove, then use deadly force. However, if there are warning signs in the area of a potentially deadly threat, my preferrable response is to evacutate the school in the warning area and keep the school on lockdown until it is safe to return to school.

In a perfect world, I'd agree. Unfortunately, the response time for police is lacking. Wait time is generally around 5-10 minutes.
I'd agree that they need to focus on people with mental health issues, but the problem I see is a majority of gun crimes are not from mentality disturbed people, but more so a crime of passion so to speak. The two week waiting period helps with that.
Another issue is the self defense issue. Take people who are being stalked... police cannot do anything until it's too late, then you have the response time factor.
I'd rather have a gun and not need it, than need it and not have one.

I do understand where you're coming from on that. I have seen crimes of passion occur on the internet, but in situations like that, if the person believes that his/her/their ex is nursing a grudge against them, I don't know if they could maybe contact the Police department of their area to maybe send an Officer to check on them once every few hours. As for the stalking issue. if I were being stalked and I did have a gun, I would first try and lose the said stalker with a few quick turns. If that doesn't work, I'd turn around and show them I do have a gun in my waistband. If they still came at me, I'd shoot them once in the hand or the leg, just to incapacitate them. Nothing fatal.

I understand the nothing fatal part, I wouldn't want to kill anyone unless I had to. But there are very few places on the human body, when shot, is not a potentially fatal injury. Add to that, a moving target.
