I had a grandmother from Russia, and know it certainly has its charms and beautiful traditions. It is the remnants of Communism/Soviet Union that are vile.
5 ups, 4y
Agreed, I hope the people never forget what Communism did to the country

. A 2018 poll showed that 66% of Russians regretted the fall of the Soviet Union, setting a 15-year record, and the majority of these regretting opinions came from people older than 55.

Election fraud, Putin. Things aren’t as bad as it’s often said they are, but it’s not great over there.

Stop spreading misinformation you conspiracy theorist!

And not that I trust Putin or anything, but listening to him talk, he's a lot more sane than mainstream western culture is

Not to mention Vietnam where 1 million civilians were killed by the us.

I need to read more on the history of Vietnam immediately following WW2, but we won't go there for now

As it is, I really don't think we should've been there in the first place

Yes, we know they died.

We know because considering how Russia typically acts they’re probably dead.

It was the US gov'ts fault for installing an anti-Russian gov't in Ukraine back in 2014, and then trying to get Ukraine to join NATO. They basically created the problem they were trying to prevent.

Putin's fears before Crimea were partially the west's fault, but after Crimea, Putin had no-one to blame but himself.
1. The Pro-Russian government was even more incompetent and corrupt than the current one
2. Before Crimea, many Ukrainians held a pro-Russia view on things, but this decreased dramatically afterwards
3. The annexation of Crimea made the Ukrainian elections more pro-western. The Eastern areas, including Crimea, were Pro Russian, and since there was usually a roughly 50% split, and Crimea held 5% of Ukraine's population, Putin made it easier for Pro Western candidates to win
4. Putin still invaded a sovereign nation, bombed civilians, and subjected young Russian teens and Ukrainian children, barely men, to the horrors of a modern war
You cannot have sympathy for Putin (The Russian people are a different story) after having read some of the letters that these soldiers send home

trying to push NATO, an anti-Russian coalition, up to Russia's doorstep
[deleted]

NATO is a defensive alliance. The US or any NATO member can only legally declare war on Russia if Russia strikes first. Putin knows this. He wants to extend Russian borders to the Soviet ones as they are more defensible, and NATO is stopping him from doing that. You cannot blame any of the Eastern European countries for joining NATO. They have historically been pushed around, mistreated, enslaved, etc. by Russians, Turks and Germans. NATO guarantees their sovereignty. If you are against that, I'm not sure you should be discussing this
Also, Ukraine wanted to join NATO because they knew Russia was a threat. They have always been a threat to Ukrainian sovereignty, and Crimea just pushed Ukraine towards NATO. Putin only has himself to blame for Ukraine aligning itself with the west.

As we learned in 2020
0 ups, 4y
This is true. However, at least Putin isn't actively destroying Russia.
And I don't really think we should be vilifying Russia for having the same problems we have ourselves.
0 ups, 4y
no, we learned that too many are too easily fooled by a screaming 5 year old. and thank God we do have a good and accurate count, despite the whackjobs who still claim otherwise.

.the real question is to think on what would happen if the united states took control over russia. would the united states be a all powerful country?
0 ups, 4y,
2 replies
Possibly, but the U.S. currently has 1st most powerful military, but we have the biggest debt in the world currently. We are in 28 trillion dollars worth of debt and that is growing 1,000 a second. Yet just because we took control over Russia does not mean we would be more powerful, in fact that’s just more land to protect from our opposing countries

Even IF we could, we would be so depleted from doing so China could literally just steamroll us
And why would we want to take control of Russia anyway?

China could steamroll us regardless.

Only if we let them, and I guarantee if it did happen a fair portion of the population would resort to guerilla warfare and resistance measures
We do have the most guns after all, and a lot of people are willing to use them
