Yeah what happened with the pcs is the original Conservative party broke in two, with the more far right reform and the moderate progressive conservatives. They split the vote, and eventually when the reform changed to Canadian alliance the two parties combined. Then they started winning elections again.

And now they've got all moderate again under O'Toole so Maxime Bernier's PPC is the only true conservative party.

Conservative is a broad category. I believe the Conservative party of Canada is right of centre economically but not socially. The ppc is farther right economically and socially.
