There is actually one good kind of gatekeeping and that’s when there are people who if not gatekept can harm a community.
For example in the car community, there are people who buy tuner cars just to be “unique” and “hipster” but then fail to maintain and give love to the car they bought so they just let it fall into disrepair and eventually having the car destroyed; which in terms causes less and less cars of said models to be available which drives up prices and makes the already expensive hobby of liking cars even more expensive and inaccessible. This has happened to countless Nissan Skylines, Toyota Supras, Mitsubishi GTOs, Honda NSXs etc…
This is just one example and I’m sure there are more examples like this in other hobbyist groups and communities…
