Yes. Especially season 1. For example episode 5, where ash does defeats Brock's geode with thunderbolt, but less then 5 episodes later, misty is yelling at ash that electric type moves have no affect on ground types.
Pikachu also does damage to the onyx. people often say that the water made it vulnerable to electric attacks, but before the water was on, pikachu was clearly doing damage to onyx
