The French town of Cambrai was the very first battle where tanks were widly used the tanks were used to try and break the stalemate. but the tanks had one flaw they were unreliable 476 tanks and close to 60,000 British soldiers rolled into the town out of 476 tanks only 32 returned and 40,000 soldiers died on all sides. the battle was the first time tanks were used in a large-scale military offensive. -- the battle of Cambrai Nov. 20th to Dec. 8th 1917.
