Well, to be fair grades to exactly equate to intelligence. I've met plenty of people who were great at academics but their intelligence didn't reflect their high grades. Also take into consideration that grades only measure certain types of intelligence (they mostly reflect logical intelligence and depending on what classes you take other types can be represented, like linguistic, musical, kinesthetic, etc.)
