President Thiêu, was flabbergasted at the news. Democratic Congressmen were reported as telling Republican Congressmen, “Payback is a bitch, bitch. Other Democrats in the Senate were reported as popping open champagne bottles at the prospect of “sticking a loss of a potential ally on the Republicans, for a change.” Key Republican Senators were in a state of shock at the callousness of their Democratic colleagues, toward an ally, in the “War on Communism,”. One Republican Senator was reported as saying, “We will not forget this day, even if it takes us 45 or 46 years.”
