i saw this one theory that steve didn’t actually get married to peggy, they didn’t work out and she still went on to marry her husband and have kids, which is why the two timelines didn’t separate. Another contribution to this theory is that steve wouldn’t tell sam about his wife (no, i don’t think i will) meaning it probably isn’t peggy
