The thing with Izzy is that it needs both psychical and emotional comfort to calm down, specially during anx..ty attacks. We're trying to get Izzy a weighted blanket because the pressure comforts it, another reason why it hugs the pillow alot during calls, for psychical comfort.
While it needs (mostly) psychical comfort, it also needs some emotional comfort, especially if that's all you can do to calm it down. Yes, even if you CAN give it psychical comfort, it still needs emotional comfort to feel safe. It mostly needs psychical comfort if anything, which, can be very difficult through a screen.
Which is why it feels comforted while role-playing. It uses role-playing as a substitute for psychical comfort, while its not actually being touched, hugged, or getting any kind of psychical comfort, it can use ocs and cuddling/hugging/touches in roleplays to calm down.
I've also observed what kind of psychical comfort helps, and what doesn't. Most of what helps can be done platonically, depending on the person, without it feeling weird. I'll list what does helps below.
What helps includes; hugging, cuddling, holding hands, s.x, being held/picked up/carried, sitting on laps (wether sexual or not), headpats, any kind of visible ASMR, hair petting, being touched in certain spots non-s.xually, booping, tickling, and playing with its hair.
