This is going to be used to ban those who present arguments that the stream owner cannot defend against. This will promote confirmation bias by literally banning dissenting opinion.

It's going to be a bad thing. There will be some streams that turn into echo chambers. Only those with the right opinions will be allowed to post or comment.

I mod several streams that get harassed regularly, the Gacha_Ocs stream for example. Users often get repeatedly harassed there for using a crabbing app. Being able to ban people helps. Besides, anyone can make a stream. Streams are echo chambers anyways, mods can delete any comments or images. It will be used to stop trolls from harassing users. I don’t see how that is a bad thing.

The main politics stream is moderated by global mods, but dominated by conservatives. Liberals post and comment all the time, they just lose the popularity contest.

All other politics streams will have this tool, but I predict that conservative streams won't use it at all - while liberal streams will abuse it.

Politicstoo mods already started abusing it yesterday. They banned 4 people that I know of in the first few hours of it being available.

Politicstoo has a lot of trolls, besides it’s their right to run their stream however they want. I certainly am ready to ban anyone who harassed people for using Gacha or being part of the LGBTQ community

oh sure - but politicstoo mods invite debate, and then delete/ban anyone who tries to debate them.

The question is are they actually trying to debate them?

it happened to me, yesterday. Hours after the ban tool became available. The stream owner offered that anyone who doesn't take the vaccine is going to die and should be given a darwin award - change my mind (which is an invitation to debate)

So I replied with information about the vaccine, vaccine side effects, and normal the vaccine approval process (all easily confirmed on the CDC, HHS, and FDA websites)

For that I was banned.....after replying to an invitation to debate.

There are almost a dozen political streams that are user run. Real_Politics, PoliticsTOO, Politics3, Politics_Redux, canadian_politics, EAM_politics
