During the entire conversation, closeted me struggled to scream "If the movie director supports LGBTQ, then it's fine!"

During the entire conversation, closeted me struggled to scream "If the movie director supports LGBTQ, then it's fine!" | So me and my family were watching a movie with an LGBTQ+ teenage girl as the main character, and near the end of the movie the mother asked the girl "Are you and this other girl (forgot her name lol) official?!" and my parents were saying how it was a subtle, yet unnecessary thing in the movie and that it shouldn've been added; Pretty much they were saying the main character should've been straight and not Lesbian. I don't think I'm coming out of the closet anytime soon... (or at all ;-;) | image tagged in blank transparent square, movies, movie, lgbtq, yeet, why are you reading this | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I watched that movie a few days ago, the Mitchell’s vs the Machines right? I enjoyed it and it was a nice (but subtle) touch

Yes it was lol.

My brother won't stop watching the movie because he thinks it is amazing, (I have to agree, it is heartwarming and yet manages to be funny at the same time) and I keep noticing how Katie wears the gay pin the entire movie. My parents didn't notice the pin, but they noticed Linda's (I think it was the Katie's mother's name) question at the end of the movie where she asked if Katie and Jade were official, and my Mom after hearing that asked me "Who is Jade?" and I said "SHE is Katie's friend, she appeared once or twice in the movie."

Which is what started the conversation, where my parents both agreed that it would've been better if it were a male character instead of a female. (help my sanity AAAAAAAAAA)

If it’s not needed, yet heavily emphasized, it could be distracting
