Lock him up for life, but don't punish others if they haven't committed (or are clearly about to commit) a crime.

This meme is a content is a reply to the gun enthusiasts who argue that only bad apples get involved in gun violence. This guy has no history at all. He was one of those enthusiasts. Gun was registered to him, no criminal history. No mental illness.

I understand and agree that this situation is seriously messed up. However, I realistically see no way to differentiate it from someone who has no history of drunk driving, goes on a Friday-night spree, and T-bones/kills a person in an intersection.

Some things just can't be prevented without depriving every good person out there of an essential freedom/privilege. :(

I know it's not a perfect argument. I know it's not grounds to revoke 2A; that isn't the argument. The meme calls for reform. Not revocation. The purpose of the meme is to poke a hole in the "We are responsible, we don't make mistakes" visage that gun enthusiasts espouse.

And bars should do that. It's good, safe policy.

I'd equate that, to take this from your realm of rhetorical meme to real-world policy, to temporarily removing guns from the residence of anyone who raises a red flag (by posting a social media threat that is clear and direct, not just rhetoric/commits abuse, etc). It wouldn't have prevented this particular situation, but it would be an interesting course to pursue that would achieve (hopefully) results without compromising the folks who just want to own guns for safe fun/self defense.

I would argue that the fiscally conservative when it comes to social policies like this, would say it costs too much money. Yet, they would turn around and seek to increase budget for the military by sickening amounts.

I thought of your suggestion as I typed my previous response. Wasn't waiting to "gotchu" but instead, I didn't want to strawman you and disarm your argument. I wanted to see if you had alternative suggestions. That said, the logistics of doing what you suggest is very... very... immense.
