For f**ks sake that's what the house of representatives is for

So I've been told... time and time again. And yet a handful of states with a very small minority of people can completely hold up progress for the rest of the country. The rest of the civilized world looks at us and wonders if we're crazy. It's dysfunctional, it's not democracy, and the reason it was instituted in the first place was to satisfy the slave states. I'm not saying we should get rid of the bicameral legislature, I'm saying that there's got to be a better way.

What I got from that is that you think we live in a democracy and if these states voted left instead of right you would be pushing to get them more say.

We do live in a Democracy. And before you say "no we live in a Republic," I'm going to remind you that the two are not mutually exclusive. The states do have a place in checking the powers of the Federal government, but there has got to be a better way of doing that without grossly favoring sparsely populated states.

We live in a CONSTITUTIONAL republic first off. And second off it's pretty fairly distributed. California gets 53 house members whereas Wyoming has 1.

That's the house - not the senate. Yes, we have a constitution. It's set up in such a way that we can change it, if there is enough willpower to do so. The basis for our system of government is democracy. The authority to govern comes from those who are governed.

And those who allow themselves to put all of their faith into the fact that the government knows best *cough *cough the chinese flu
