You assume that all vegans share the same opinion. There are plenty of vegans and vegetarians out there who adopt the diet because it's healthier. There are also individuals who *were* meat-eaters and then decided to make the switch for either health or ethics; they still like/miss the taste. Then there are meat-eaters who want plant-based options so they can cut down on the amount of meat in their diet without eliminating it completely.

If you're specifically asking vegans who are interested in the ethical aspect of veganism, the biggest reason why they might want plant-based products that taste like meat is so they can make it easier for meat eaters to make a different choice. If there are plant-based alternatives that are healthier, and your doctor is breathing down your neck about heart health, you might give a non-beef burger a second look.

yeha i agree, i was mainly talking about the hardcore vegans that have been vegan for like 5+ years and became vegan to kep animals 'safe'. With these type of people eating plant based 'meat', they're just hypocretical imo

<Shrugs>

The earliest meat replacement products are based on old Buddhist recipes. Buddhist monks have a strict vegetarian diet, but they aren't *born* monks, so they often grow up eating meat. That childhood memory stays with them, and it is only human nature to want something more when you're not allowed to have it. Those meat replacement products serve as a release valve for that pressure to violate their oaths.

Those cravings for meat don't go away. Our brains are wired to desire foods that are high in calories and high in fat because we evolved in an environment where food was in short supply. It's a survival mechanism... one that now causes obesity among those in wealthy nations where food is abundant. Understanding that and adapting to that fact of human nature is not hypocritical - it's smart.

not eating meat is not the hypocretical part, the hypocretical part is using ways to convince others to become vegan when in fact those people are eating a 'false form' of meat itself. If they were a true vegan with the intention of not killing animals, then they would give up food that is close to meat and resembles it. Also, though it is not said much, going vegan actually kills more animals than being a meat eater.

Let me say it a different way: Just because they have an ethical stance doesn't mean that the human urge to eat high-caloric fatty food (meat) goes away. Finding a way to deal with that urge while taking that stand isn't hypocritical.

I'm beginning to think you have more of a problem with their ethical stance than meat substitutes. That's a completely different conversation.

im fine with their ethical stance as long as it doent get i others way. If someone is vegan and isnt bothering anyone, im totally fine but when you got people blocking off a meat section in a grrocery store, there i have a problem cause there interefearing with others. People like that i dont like but someone who does there own thing im perfecty fine with
