Pillagers are for loot

Yeah, I guess that makes sense, due to their name. But would they kill Villagers just for fun then? I mean, Villagers don't drop anything when they die, so I don't see why they'd do that for loot.

The pillagers can't have witnesses

That definitely is a possibility. I mean, I think that also happens in real life, right? And maybe they still think someone might try to fight back. In fact, iron golems and players actually DO attack them, so maybe they don't know that Villagers never will and killing just everything and everyone that isn't one of them, could make things a whole lot easier for them.

What if the Villagers attacked first?

Another theory might be that they're corrupted by evil or cursed or whatever. But on the other hand, that wouldn't make sense for Archie from Minecraft Dungeons, because he's an Illager as well, but he wanted to be a good guy.
