well they exist because there are people that do some huge farming and i'm one of them

They are useful using them for attacking. With your fist, you can attack 3 blocks far, same for sword. Axe is 2,5 and hoe haves 3,5. Handy for keeping distance

In my hardcore world, I have 320 farmland with 4 water, and I need a few wooden hoes to finish.

it has high range so it is good a little for pvp
