wait, I had a history article. But i gave it to why so political. here it is. In a shocking first, a pregnant mummy from ancient egypt has been discovered by researchers. The mummy, brought to Poland in 1826, was previously thought to be a priest, and has been on display in a museum since 1917. Marzena Ożarek-Szilke, anthropologist and archaeologist from the Faculty of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw and her colleagues had already almost finished their research, and were even preparing to submit their findings for publishing. But she and her husband took one last look at the images and noticed a tiny foot. This was an unborn fetus, as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, and proved once and for all that the mummy was female, after oit has previously thought to have been male. The cause of the woman’s death is unknown, and the fetus is thought to be 26-30 weeks gestation. One of the strangest questions is why the fetus- whose internal organs were removed by ancient egyptians, was left in place. The reasons vary- ancient egyptians may have thought that the unborn child already had a soul and would go to the afterlife with their mother. It could have also been difficult to remove the unborn child from the womb without damage to the mother. Getting back to the mystery of why the mummy was thought to be a male priest, it is possible this mummy was put in the wrong tomb. That would explain why a pregnant female would be in the sarcophogus of a priest male. In fact, in both ancient and modern times, tomb raiding has been common. This leads to an estimate that around 10% of mummies are in the wrong tomb.
