Much as I loved Abe, my man U.S Grant is what we need. Most underrated President in history, and one of the greatest.

Not sure if that's a quote or you're just putting words to a picture?

Or if you're agreeing/disagreeing with me...but Grant truly was amazing.

Oh you're good.

He was just a cool dude. Founded the Justice Dept. to go after the KKK and pretty much broke the back of that and similar organizations during his Presidency. He was a driving force behind the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. He signed the first Civil Rights Act a century before the second one was passed in the 1960's. He explored lots of ways to help integrate blacks into society through Reconstruction, which has been maligned over the last century and a half by Confederate sympathizers but was honestly the best hope we had to really end racism forever in this country.

Deserves to have his face on Mt. Rushmore, honestly. Would have been much better than FDR.

I often regret that my education in history was very weak and uninspired. i'll pay more attention to him from now on!

can you recommend any books on Grant? i remember reading a sixth grade-level biography, and nothing after that.

Well you're in luck, because I'm a bit of a history buff and absolutely have you covered here: 'Grant' by Ron Chernow (wrote fantastic books about Washington and Hamilton as well), is pretty much the definitive history of the man and entirely debunks all the lies and ill-repute his reputation has received over the years.

It's a long read, 800 pages if I remember correctly, but incredibly fascinating and my favorite book on any American history subject other than WWII. There's an audiobook version if that's easier for you, but I myself prefer paper (personal preference). Either is solid and I cannot recommend it enough. It should be mandatory reading in schools.
