i don't know if everyone thinks those accusations will change anyone's views. a lot of people are just angry and letting it out. there are a lot of ideas of what America is or should be, and sometimes they conflict mightily. as for the label of "cult members", you've probably seen people say "I'm voting for Trump, no matter what", which the election seemed to bear out, and I think that's where it comes from.
