That's odd...As a Catholic I can assure you there is nothing wrong with acknowledging someone being gay...we obviously don't condone such relationships within the Church, but we also hold that everyone has a right to live how they choose and there is no official teaching that should prevent a teacher from pointing out that Nick is gay for Gatsby.
