"Real" in what sense?

Real in the sense that their genitalia matches the societal norms for that gender? No...
Real in the sense that their gender matches their internalized identity? Yes...

Deep Philosophy Answer: Real in the sense that there is an absolute objective reality that we should all be referring to when trying to discuss complicated issues such as gender and sex? The human mind isn't equipped to fully comprehend absolute objective reality, so we can only try our best to make our understanding of what is "real" as un-subjective as possible.
