There are *many* Christians who want to return to the bad-old-days. They are held in check by our secular and pluralistic society. This is the same secularism and pluralism that these Christians seek to dismantle, and that Iran and other oppressive Muslim countries lack. So it isn't that Christians aren't "that bad" - it's that secularism and pluralism are good.

LGBTQ and racial diversity is a part of that pluralism. Minority religions, such as Neo-Paganism, Unitarian Universalsim, and Judaism help enforce secularism alongside non-theistic philosophies. These are all things that far-right Christians either actively or have actively fought against in the past.

There is no such thing as a "little" bigotry... it all adds up and becomes violence sooner or later.

Read what I wrote again. I never said every Christian is evil. However, there is a very real push by those on the far right to make the U.S. a Christian theocracy. And if you don't think there are Christians who would want to kill you, consider this: The KKK considers itself a Christian organization.

On the North East and West Coasts of the U.S., we're not as exposed to the vitriol and hate that happens in the center of the country... Religion and Faith are regularly used as justification for bigotry. You're on the wrong side of this conversation - you need to educate yourself about the very real threats that still exist in this country.

Sure, you're allowed to have that opinion. Just as I am allowed to call you out on it. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from the responsibility for what you say.

If I were to say to someone who suffers from depression "Cheer up - you could be a quadriplegic" most people would say that I'm being obscenely insensitive. And they would be right; just because one person's pain is not as "bad" as another's in my estimation, doesn't mean that pain is any less valid. THAT'S MINIMIZING. And that's what you're doing when you say that LGBTQ people should be grateful they don't live in Iran.
