I cannot get over the amount of stupid in this post:

Abraham Lincoln was a republican who abolished slavery. I literally am a historian and read a biography about him two days ago. Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN, and the democrats were the ones on the confederate side (this is actually true).

The Nazis occupied GERMANY, and honestly had no connection to the political system of the United States.

Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass: The Story Behind an American Friendship
Book by Russell Freedman

A passage from google:
With the election of Abraham Lincoln (the first Republican president) in 1860, the Party's success in guiding the Union to victory in the American Civil War, and the Party's role in the abolition of slavery, the Republican Party largely dominated the national political scene until 1932.

back then the parties were ideologically flipped. northern liberal republicans freed the slaves from southern conservative democrats. they flipped again in the 1960s when civil rights forced many southern racists to join the republican party. you should know your history, not brag about your ignorance of it.

Sure, by the standards of 1865 and 1935 respectively.

southern democrats who left the party and became republicans because they didn't like kennedy & civil rights are also conservatives.

Yeah, but in no way indicative of official Republican values (as you failed to disprove in another string of ours). They're like barnacles on a ship; you don't want them, they're ugly and deface your vessel, but you can't get rid of them.

they aren't official "republican" values, they are lowest common denominator values of many conservatives who happened to vote trump into office.

Official Republican values are on their website...in no place is anything about slavery or discrimination championed, so the only logical conclusion is that the idiots who do want such things only vote Republican because of the Dixiecrat switch. If they knew their history they'd know that the Republican party was expressly founded to end slavery and reunite the country. I grant you it's become beholden largely to corporate interests, and would welcome a true return to 'small-government for the average joe' party thinking, but it's still an infinitely far cry from being officially supportive of any sort of discrimination.

today's republican party shit show is nowhere near what it was 100 years ago. it's got to be scrapped along with the democrat party. neither can be reformed.

Now that I'd be fine with...our politics are stagnant to the extreme.

yup, exactly - either/or, nothing dynamic. lesser of 2 evils, not choices so good people on either side have a hard time choosing.
