fact #1

fact #1 | antibiotics are 20% used by humans and 80% used on meat. animals in the meat industry are put in bad conditions and small cages, which makes the animals susceptible to disease. since the meat industry wants to be cheap and not create larger cages and be clean, they instead pump the animals with antibiotics to kill the bacteria in the animals. most of the bacteria die, but some of them survive and come back as superbacteria, a much stronger version of themselves. and when we eat this meat, most people contract superbacteria, which is harder to recover from. this is one of the reasons why when we take antibiotics when we're sick, it sometimes doesnt work at all since the superbacteria is immune to it. It's pretty interesting. Bacteriophages are living bacteria killers, viruses that use bacteria as hosts, so we could inject those into our body to fight off superbacteria. Evolution is not a problem, after all viruses evolve too. Besides, studies show that for bacteria to fight off bacteriophages, they have to compromise immunity to antibiotics. In other words, we got them in a catch-22.
