That's entirely different than condemning LGBTQ+ folks. He said that no one should be denied civil liberties, such as civil unions. Most nations have separate tax status levels for couples, and the Church has no business interfering with civil affairs.
However, by that token then people need to accept that the Roman Catholic Church is free to hold its own traditions and teachings. We don't condemn anyone. What we do condemn is LGBTQ sexual practices, which are a natural result of LGBTQ marriage. Therefore we cannot marry or bless any union between LGBTQ couples.
See, you need to realize that your rights end where those of the next begin. I as a Catholic have no right to prevent you from living how you want, and you have no right to prevent us Catholics from living how we want. Yes, we won't allow LGBTQ+ practices (note I said practices. That does not necessarily apply to celibate LGBTQ+ people, though that's a nuanced matter more fit for an essay than an IMGflip comment board), but you don't let straight people call themselves nonbinary or pansexual either. This is not because all nonbinaries and pansexuals hate straights, but because the two lifestyles are simply incompatible.
We can either accept that we're different, have equal rights to live how we want, and limit ourselves to reasonable debate and dialogue defending our views, or you can escalate it to the all-too-common accusations of [insert word here]phobia that I see from LGBTQ+ folks who have a persecution complex and sadly don't seem to understand the actual Catholic stance on the matter. I'm not trying to throw down a gauntlet or anything here, just making sure you understand where I am on the matter.
