Got the Medal of Honor for making a nighttime surface attack far into shallow water firing 8 torpedoes and hitting 6 ships, blowing up an ammo ship, then making an hour long dash at top speed avoiding destroyers and dodging fishing boats to get to water deep enough to dive in.

Orchestrated the only land raid on Japanese home soil to blow up a train using the sub’s scuttling charges.

Retrofitted the sub with a rocket launcher rack to bombard Japanese coastal cities. Used up every single round of ammunition and ended up ramming a boat to sink it in order to win a bet on how many vessels he would sink.
