A Suicidal Cycle Path ?

May be there is such a thing as a suicycle - I based that on the appalling standard of cycling in South East England :~)

A Precarious Cycle Path ?
Cycling is very popular in the Netherlands with 35 % of journeys carried out by bicycle.
It is considered safe enough that cycle helmets are considered unnecessary although about 200 people are killed in accidents each year
However, someone in the city of Volendam doesn't believe this figure is nearly high enough, hence the width and positioning next to the edge of a canal of this insane cycle lane. :~)

It's three bricks wide - I calculate approximately 20 inches - that should be enough until they collide with the bridge where, hopefully, they fall into the water :~)
