I think it's AU Canon as in he does die via Hunger Games, but survives in his own realm.

What I think it is (from kuwata's pov), all contestants are sent into a smash bros like realm where in the hunger games, there is only one winner that gets their realm saved, kinda like DBS's Tournament of Power.

Unless a plot hole exists where contestants are placed in again and again, it's a smash bros like story where no one really dies, but sort of goes through a temporary coma until the next game (if chosen again).

Otherwise, Diamond's dead in that AU.

The people in the games arent actually the real people, but rather fragments of their soul. If they win the hunger games, their soul goes back. If they die, that part of their soul is lost forever. And if 10 parts of ur soul are lost....u officially die
