𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 before has anyone experienced something like this.
"𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 retire after this raid," one soldier says. "If i live to see the end of it." You somehow 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 that soldier a ration bar, just out of kindness and compassion. In return, he thanks 𝐘𝐨𝐮. The air is still. It's quiet. Too quiet. Suddenly, a gunshot whizzes past your ear. "Heads 𝐔𝐩!" someone shouts. So it begins.
𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 before, and never again. That's all you can think right now. But you know you're 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 kill today, whether you like it or not. You raise your rifle to shoot, but instinctively 𝐋𝐞𝐭 it down again. "The captain didn't give the signal yet, you idiot. What are you doing?" 𝐘𝐨𝐮 think. You slide back down into your sandy, and muddy, foxhole. Down. Down, down, 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧, into this hell on earth. This war. Before you can think, the captain gives the signal.
"𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 before, and never again," you think again. How ironic. A soldier says, "I'm 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 have to lay these charges every 6 feet. Can you stand guard? Wait.."
"𝐑𝐔𝐍!" The shout was cut short by a shot. He took it through the face. There was no pain. 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 and around your mind spins. Bullet trails whip up around you, yet you are still alive. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 just when you are about to reach the shell line, THWIP. Everything goes red. You 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭. Or at least try. The pain is unbearable. The only cover is that shell line. Again, 𝐘𝐨𝐮 run back to that cover. Your arm is bleeding heavily. "Mother," you cry.
Everything goes dark.
