Well, not always.... but mostly.
Many people are of either low intelligence, low common sense or a combination of the two. Politicians and media(that's movies tv and music in addition to the "news") have made their money by preying on this reality.
If the world weren't governed by evil it wouldn't matter; but evil is everywhere and in everything and the internet is more heavily seeded with it than most places.
