I realize he was a self-described "democratic socialist", a political stance identified as such during the times he lived. But by today's interpretations, I am convinced he would be much more inclined to identify with the Libertarian party. I base this on his statement, "The real division is not between conservatives and revolutionaries but between authoritarians and libertarians.”

That is wishful thinking. Liberty requires small Government, but socialism requires large Government.

In all seriousness though, you have a warped view of what socialism is. socialism is when the workers collectively own the means of production. It has nothing to do with government size, unlike what most people thing, it's not when there's a welfare state or when the government controls the economy.
