That's usually their option to do that, If they see rude or spam Comments likely a link or doing arguments/sending death threats to people, then they'll flag the Comments and that solves the problem. Usually, Comments are not meant to be like something that someone never understand the real thing or something that is so offensive to something, it's meant to be something that will prove the point or truth/that is funny you watched. That's all the explanation.

I commented "Timber1972 would go to your house and murder you if you called her a liberal or a leftist" as a joke because Timber1972 was a far-right former imgflip user, and someone suggested that one liberal user was actually one of her alts. I don't see how commenting that violated any rules.

Well, That's much of a problem of trying to think that someone might have threats for them. That's what makes it a harassment and rude for that.
