Dude...that's not true. Show me an eleven year old who is holding down a steady job, is making car and house payments, filling out and paying tax forms, serving jury duty, voting, etc.
Kids are dependent on their parents help for a long time because they are not often mentally or physically capable of accomplishing the same as adults. Risk-assessment and judgement parts of the brain do not fully develop until the mid twenties, generally. That's why kids always think, "Ah man, my parents are stupid!" when in fact it is the youth who physically cannot see and comprehend the factors in play that influenced the decision of the parents.
Now, obviously being a parent doesn't make on infallible, but far more often than not parents make informed decisions with the best interest of their kids at heart. They deserve respect and obedience. That's just how human physiology and psychology works.
