Not really their intended purpose. But I see how it would be helpful. I have given my feedback on needing a "read" feature in notifications.

Well there is a read feature but it isn’t very helpful, I find upvotes to be perfect for it since they are bright green and hard to miss. Though I use downvotes if someone is being insanely rude
