The problem is not giving $ to foreign countries, the problem is that is really military aid which is actually just money given to US defense contractors in the form of weapons sales to those countries. If it was all food aid, that would be terrific. It's not. It's military aid to prop up the bloodletting and military hegemony in comprador states.

The point is more that everything he promised to do was awful.

idk he promised to end the wars. That would have been nice. MOST of it was terrible and racist, but there were a few diamonds in that giant bucket of shit.

Let's get one thing clear: what he promised to do was SCARE the rest of the world into ending wars BY INTIMIDATING THEM with a turbocharged military.

And quite apart from anything else, when has that EVER worked?

Fighting between various groups that has been going on for hundreds of years. USA should never have been in Middle East. Moved our 50 soldiers out. Turkey MUST take over captured ISIS fighters that Europe refused to have returned. The stupid endless wars, for us, are ending! https://t.co/Fbcem9i55Z

Well, I'm not just going to forget the needless escalations with Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Yemen, and NATO who are our fricking allies by the way as though they never happened.

Ramping up militarism is the exact opposite of ending wars. The way you end a war is to pack up and leave. That is the only way. Trump said he would end wars and escalated them instead. If he had followed through with ending them that would have been peachy.

Well, again, this shouldn't have come as a surprise to you. His message from the start was to ramp up militarism AND magically bring peace to the world at the same time and anyone who was paying attention should have gone "wait a minute, what...?"

And when he pressed for details, he got into these very aggressive tirades on how the one will intimidate other nations INCLUDING OUR ALLIES into submission. Which you are now pretending he didn't say.

Also NATO is a fascist death cult which should be dissolved.

Well, they're our allies and without them, the United States is just another rogue state. Multilateralism is most of the reason we get most of our concessions at all - for trade AND for military action.

The US is a rogue state, though. US trade programs are totally extractive and abhorrent and they are a system of extractive raw deals. World Bank and IMF destroy the economies of anyone who takes loans from them. NATO is just an extension of US military power. Also the US continually refuses multilateralism, shit just look at the unilateral sanctions regimes it is slapping everyone with all the damn time.

I'm more happy when the US works with NATO than when the US works without it. When the US takes military action and NATO refuses to put their name on it, something ALWAYS turns out to be horribly wrong with our foreign policy.

Maybe you think that NATO doesn't moderate the US's foreign policy ENOUGH, and I wouldn't disagree with you there - but you would have had to be the most gullible person on Earth to think that THAT GUY was going to solve the issue. He promised no such thing - not in context, not with any kind of substance.

I had no faith that he was going to do anything to end War. Your misunderstanding of NATO is in thinking that it is something the United States views itself as part of. The United States controls NATO. NATO is employed as a means of legitimizing United States military actions. It is the glue that holds the Europeans inside of the United States military hegemonic project. The United States does not give a damn what any NATO country thinks. They are window dressing. Look at the Iraq War, the presence of NATO did nothing to restrain the United States nor did it in Afghanistan. The reason that the United States still values NATO is that it makes the wars that it fights look like they are the consensus of the international community.
0 ups, 4y
The only use that the United States still has for NATO is a market for its weapons sales and a appearance of legitimacy and what are otherwise overwhelmingly unilateral military actions such as the invasion of Iraq. The idea is to create the illusion of a coalition of the willing. In reality it is still the United States orchestrating the wars.

I wish he had ended the wars, but he didn't end any of them. That was the one thing he said he would do that I actually was rooting for him on.

Well, maybe next time pay closer attention to what a person says he'll do and the nitty-gritty of how he'll do it and not just pick out the bits that sound good.

I'm not bringing you up to speed on four years of bad policy. It's moot now - he's fired and replaced with a much better person. You can deal with your terrible grasp of morality in your own time.
