Some scientific ammunition I've been working on (updated)

Some scientific ammunition I've been working on (updated) | Trump and his supporters (like QAnon) tried to use a CDC report (from August) to downplay COVID-19. MAGA focuses on the high survival rate - they should tell that to the families who've lost loved ones to the virus. It WAS reported by the CDC that, from February to August of 2020, 6% of COVID-19 deaths had ZERO reported comorbidities (like smoking). I want to focus on the fact that EVEN 6% of the total virus deaths are a lot of people; PEOPLE, not statistics. If the 6% trend continued from August to now, "JUST" those 6% are equivalent to about SEVEN September 11s worth of U.S. deaths, as of January 1, 2021 | image tagged in covid-19,maga,cdc,qanon,9/11 | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

One of the major problems of scientific reports as it relates to laymen, is that laymen typically don’t comprehend the gravity with which scientists view statistics. Laymen hear “2.175% fatality rate” and think wow that’s such a small number! What’s the big deal?

The big deal is that percentage is derived from the total dead (1,835,389) divided by the total infected (84,382,536), times 100 to move the decimal to the right place....that’s 2.175%.

But that 2.175% equals 1,835,389 people, or the population of Denver and Dallas combined. Wiped off the planet.

What they also fail to understand when acting like the callous assholes they act like when they say “well, it’s mostly the elderly and the sick, so what?” You know who else said the exact same thing? Ebenezer Scrooge...“We must decrease the surplus population” ring a bell?

Last I checked, Scrooge isn’t listed up there with Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich and Mitch McConnell is a ‘conservative’ icon...but maybe he should be.

Well put on the statistics. I'm not even a huge math person, I'm more of a writer and I was a huge reader at a very young age (including 'A Christmas Carol'); I've even visited the Charles Dickens museum in London. Unlike those conservatives you mentioned, Ebenezer DID end up seeing the errors of his ways, but, you know that.

This is probably too academic-like, busy, and long, but I wanted to get this out there.
