One of the major problems of scientific reports as it relates to laymen, is that laymen typically don’t comprehend the gravity with which scientists view statistics. Laymen hear “2.175% fatality rate” and think wow that’s such a small number! What’s the big deal?
The big deal is that percentage is derived from the total dead (1,835,389) divided by the total infected (84,382,536), times 100 to move the decimal to the right place....that’s 2.175%.
But that 2.175% equals 1,835,389 people, or the population of Denver and Dallas combined. Wiped off the planet.
What they also fail to understand when acting like the callous assholes they act like when they say “well, it’s mostly the elderly and the sick, so what?” You know who else said the exact same thing? Ebenezer Scrooge...“We must decrease the surplus population” ring a bell?
Last I checked, Scrooge isn’t listed up there with Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich and Mitch McConnell is a ‘conservative’ icon...but maybe he should be.
