Happy new year :D

I sit in my little reading nook reading A Valiant Hero for the hundredth time. It is about a hero by the name of Amelie and her noble dragon mount Sylin. She rides against an evil dragon who terrorizes villages and eats humans as snacks. Unfortunately, she fails, the dragon overpowers her. While I read my book I grow tired and fall asleep, and when I wake up I am on the ground. I sit up and look around. Last I remember I was reading my book, where am I. As I look around, I immediately recognize my surroundings. The first scene in my book. There is a note at my feet, “defeat the dragon and you will awake.”

This couldn’t possibly be real, but what chance do I have. I have read this book a thousand times, I might be able to help Amelie defeat the evil dragon. First I have to find them. Looking up I see a figure in the sky, two giant wings and a rider. That’s them! Amelie and Sylin! They are going to stop here to get ready for battle! The pair land in front of me. “Who are you,” Amelie asks. “I’m Samantha, I want to help you defeat the dragon.” I answer. Amelie raises an eyebrow, “You? No offense but you don’t exactly look like a fighter.” This world has clairvoyants, people who can see the future! I could pretend to be one of them. “I’m a clairvoyant, if you don’t take me with you will die.” Sylin flares their wings up growling. “You are lying,” Amelie growls. Yay, I forgot dragons could detect lies. “Right.. Dragons can detect lies.. Look. I don’t know how to explain it but I have to help you defeat the evil dragon. He is too strong for you to defeat on your own, and he knows you are coming.” I try. “It appears you are telling the truth. We will allow you to come with us.” Amelie responds.

Now I am going with them. That’s a start. Sylin allows me to ride her and she takes off, towards the evil dragon’s cave. I look down over the side of Sylin’s back to see we are thousands over feet away from the ground. Woah, we are pretty far up. The dragon’s cave comes into sight. “The dragon knows you are coming, and it can get an advantage by blasting us as we enter. We should draw it out.” I suggest. “Good idea,” Amelie responds. “Look, there is a sheep over there,” I say pointing to a sheep. “Great idea!” Amelie says steering Sylin to the sheep. Her dragon picks the sheep up in her talons and drops it right outside the dragon's cave. We hide behind a rock and wait for it to leave. It walks out of it’s cave sniffing the air and bends down to eat the sheep. Taking the chance Sylin lunges forwards and tears into its back. The dragon roars in agitation and takes to the air, we follow closely. Sylin tears at its wings causing the dragon to struggle to fly. The dragon falls to the ground, it’s enormous body making the ground shake. It’s dead! We defeated it!

As we fly away I look back to see it’s head rising, it’s giant maw opening to blast flames. “It’s alive! Go down!” I shout in alarm. Sylin dives down and the blast of hot flame barely misses us. I can feel the jet of flame scorching behind my back. We almost just died. “Woah, that was a good call!” Amelia sighs in relief. Sylin wheels to the side and turns around as we head to continue the battle. We dash down under the dragon and claw its neck then twirl around it. Sylin rakes her claws across its scales, too nimble and quick for the dragon’s flailing wings and claws to hit. Amelie pulls out her sword, and to my amazement, leaps off of Sylin and onto the very angry dragon’s back. She makes her way up the back of the dragon, using her sword as an anchor so the dragon doesn’t throw her off. Meanwhile Sylin is distracting the dragon with me on her back. Amelie reaches the dragon's head and pushes her sword into its eye. The dragon gives one last roar before falling to the ground, dead for real this time. Sylin picks Amelie up and lands in the area we met before.

“Thank you for your help, Samantha. To show my gratitude I give you this amulet, to protect you in the future,” Amelie pushes an amber amulet into my hand. I yawn waking up, that was the strangest dream. It felt so real. I look down at my book, to my surprise the title now says, A Valiant Hero, a Dragon, and One Strange Sidekick. Feeling something cool next to me I find an amulet, the exact one Amelie gave me. So, it wasn’t a dream after all. I flip through the newly updated book to find that I am now included in it as well. I changed the course of the entire book, and that makes me wonder, could Amelie and Sylin be from elsewhere too?
