I don't think the Democrats are particularly interested in keeping him around.

You can't really sympathize with him as he knew full well that he was taking the job out of Jeff Session's cold dead hands (proverbially).

He's retiring either way come next month. Honestly, he just wants to make sure he doesn't do anything that'll get him sanctioned when he's so close to a clean break, and I think he knows that's what's coming to Giuliani, Powell et al.

You know how I feel about that already: I think some of his chickens will come home to roost but it won't be nearly as fitting a punishment as what he deserves. He'll die rich. Surrounded by people he hates, but he'll die as wealthy as he lived. I don't think there's any point in pretending otherwise.
